About the Horary Astrology Course

The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to horary astrology, which is a branch of astrology that is used to answer a question by casting a chart for the moment the question is asked.

The course covers the history and origins of horary astrology, as well as the philosophical, conceptual and technical underpinnings of the subject.

Students will finish the course with a solid foundation in the practice of horary astrology, the ability to begin answering questions in practice.

The course is presented entirely online, through a private course site that each student gains access to upon registering.

What is Horary Astrology?

Horary astrology is the practice of determining the answer to a specific question through the examination and interpretation of a horoscopic chart cast for the moment that the question is posed to an astrologer.

The theory is that since the question exists and is formulated and posed at a specific moment in time, then the answer must also exist at that moment, and this answer is reflected by the alignment of certain celestial bodies in an astrological chart cast for that point in time.

By following a very specific set of rules, the answer to the question is sought to be derived entirely from the chart of the question itself.

Horary Astrology Course Description

The course is divided into four main parts. Each part of the course contains a 90-minute video lecture that presents the basic concepts for that section of the course.

There are also guided reading assignments from different source texts, as well as other supplemental materials that are provided on the course site for further study.

The entire course is presented online through a private course site. New students can register and gain access to the course site at anytime. Shortly after a new student registers for the course they will receive an email with their login information, at which point they will be able to access the course site and immediately begin studying at their own pace.

Since the course is presented online there are no specific times that students will need to be available for the course, and each person is able to study at their own pace.

Synopsis of the Course

The first part of the course covers the historical undercurrents which fostered the creation and development of horary astrology, as well as the philosophical and conceptual foundations underlying the subject.

The second part of the course focuses on the technical apparatus underlying horary astrology, with an overview of some core concepts that are necessary in order to understand horary charts. In this part of the course several core technical concepts which provide the basis for a precise approach to predictive astrology are discussed. The later part of this section is focused on the practice of “consultation charts”, which involves determining the thoughts of a person who approaches an astrologer at a specific moment in time.

The third part of the course covers the technical apparatus of horary astrology, with a focus on learning how to answer horary questions. This part of the course provides the tools and techniques for determining what will take place in the future based on the chart of the question itself. Many chart examples and case studies are used in order to demonstrate how to apply the techniques in practice.

The fourth part of the course expands upon the third with a lecture that contains an extended number of chart examples, showing additional ways in which horary questions can be answered.

Legacy Course

This is a legacy course that was largely recorded back between 2008-2011, and we are currently in the process of revising and expanding the course. The new course will have 12 parts, and will be co-taught by Chris Brennan and Rob Bailey.

I decided to make the original course available still in the meantime though because it is one of the only places where students can learn the practice of whole sign horary from the late Hellenistic and early Medieval astrological traditions at the current time.

The original four lectures in the course have been supplemented with other material from podcasts and other recordings I've done over the years, in order to provide a more well-rounded intro to the subject.

New lectures started being added to the current course in late 2022, and we are on track to finish adding all of the new lectures by the end of 2023. New students who sign up for the course now will be grandfathered in, and will get access to all of the new lectures as they are added to the course at no additional cost.
